Who is Shallipopi?
Crown Uzama popularly known as Shallipopi aka, Pluto President aka Evian, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and singer. He started music in 2021 with freestyles on TikTok and came into limelight in 2023 when he dropped Elon Musk freestyle on TikTok. Seeing the wide acceptance of the freestyle he did a proper recording for the track and the world loved it.
Barely a year after Shallipopi was recognised in the music industry, he has met with Wizkid, Burnaboy, Davido, ODUMODU BLVCK and other big artists in Nigeria. Shallipopi has also had the opportunity of performing at shows across Africa and has also performed twice in the UK, first at the 02 Arena and then at the 02 Indigo. He even toured Europe and had Germans singing to his songs.

In an interview on the ‘Zero Conditions Podcast’, Shallipopi disclosed that within 24 hours of uploading the track on TikTok, he got 1 million views. To him, that was a sign to move to Lagos.
Shallipopi continued promoting the track on TikTok and soon it got to number 15 on the chart. Again, Shallipopi took this as a sign to move to Lagos. He felt like Auchi would not give him the kind of exposure he needed.
Life in Lagos
Moving to Lagos without a plan and searching for accommodation
As quick as the idea of moving came, Shallipopi packed his stuff, found the nearest bus headed for Lagos, and moved. Funny thing is that Shallipopi didn’t have anyone to stay with. He just moved to Lagos without a plan. This was in March 2023.
Getting to Lagos, Shallipopi began reaching out to his WhatsApp contacts that usually post about their Lagos lifestyle on their status and also loved the Elon Musk song. So many of them let him down him, they’ll tell him to come today, come tomorrow, etc. Luckily he found some guys that allowed him to stay with them.
Actually, Shallipopi told them he’d be staying for four days only, meanwhile he had plans to stay longer.
Was Shallipopi thrown out of the house after four days?
At what many take to be a twist of fate, Shallipopi was called for a show in Port Harcourt on the fourth day of his stay. The pay for the show was 50,000.00 NGN (Fifty thousand naira) though organizers covered for his flight and other things. While 50k for a show in 2023 seemed small, Shallipopi didn’t mind. He was even happy that they booked a flight for him. In his own words he said, “It’s good, I don fly before? I never comot for Benin before if not for show wey dem book me say make I fly. The airplane even do me somehow, I want vomit for the airplane”.
However, to Shallipopi’s surprise, the guys he was squatting with opted to fly down to Port Harcourt with him.
Upon arrival in Port Harcourt, Shallipopi got a lot of accolades for his freestyles and his hit song ‘Elon Musk’. Seeing that Shallipopi was accepted in Port Harcourt, the guys he was squatting with thought he was a big boy and didn’t ask him to leave.
Shallipopi continued to get shows from Asaba, Benin, Kaduna, Abuja etc., except Lagos although he was resident in Lagos. Some of the show organizers almost paid him 1 million just to perform Elon Musk. Meanwhile, it’s important to note that while all this was happening, Shallipopi didn’t have a manager or any connections. He was still using TikTok to promote himself.
When Shallipopi finally had the chance to perform in Lagos
Finally a dream come true for Shallipopi, Yhemolee contacted him to perform at an event. Shallipopi revealed that he wasn’t paid for the performance and he didn’t bother to ask for anything because the exposure alone was worth so much to him.
He even mentioned that people were throwing money at him during the event but he didn’t try to pick any of it.
Meeting Zlatan and Dvpper
Shallipopi heard that Zlatan was in the United Kingdom for a show so he thought he should try his luck and see if he could get a remix for his record ‘Elon Musk’ with Zlatan.

Immediately, Shallipopi messaged Zlatan on Instagram and to his surprise, the chat receipt showed that the chat was seen. Shallipopi said he almost fainted. Before he recovered from the shock, Zlatan replied saying that he’d be in Nigeria the following day and they could meet up and work on the remix.
The following day, Shallipopi was with Zlatan in the studio and they started recording the remix. ‘While recording, someone passed smoke to me and when I looked up, it was Dvpper!’ says Shallipopi in one of his interviews.

First of all, the relationship between Shallipopi and his mom can be likened to the relationship between friends. When Shallipopi made up his mind to move to Lagos, he told her; though he only said he was going to record a song.
Talking about approval, Shallipopi’s mom seems to be a huge fan of her son. Shallipopi said his mom knows how to sing his songs and she sings them tohim sometimes. To him, that is a source of hope and strength.
Why does Shallipopi use one sound for all his songs?
When Shallipopi dropped Elon Musk, he got a lot of feedback from people saying that he’ll be a one hit guy because of the kind of sound he was using. These people doubted Shallipopi’s ability to drop another hit song.
To Shallipopi, that seemed like a challenge and he liked it. So he went on to drop Shapiru and other tracks using the same sound. This doesn’t mean he wants to stick to the sound though. He disclosed during an interview that when the time is right, he’d switch up the sound.
Is it true that the beat for Elon Musk was copyrighted?
In a way, it was copyrighted but here’s exactly what happened. When the owners of the beat started making a fuss over it. Shallipopi searched for the individual owner and reached out to him via a video call.
Shallipopi explained that the song was doing fine already and pleaded that they let him have the beat. The owner agreed but demanded $2000 upfront from Shallipopi and also requested that 70% of the revenue generated from the song be shared with him.
This was where Shallipopi started having issues because he didn’t have $2000 to pay upfront. Left with no other choice, Shallipopi pulled down the song and it was at number 11 on the chart at this time.
Next step, he called his Producer and asked if he could replicate the Elon Musk beat in a better way. The Producer said yes and that was how a second beat was made for the song. Shallipopi uploaded the song again and this time it got to number 40 on the chart.
From 40 to 11 on the chart seemed quite unfair but Shallipopi was happy that at least the song got back on the chart.
How did Shallipopi get to feature Pa Monday on ObaPluto?
It all started with comments on social media asking why he doesn’t represent the Benin culture in his songs. Following the comments, Shallipopi called his Producer requesting that they find a Benin song and mix the beat to represent the culture.
That was how ObaPluto was made. After dropping the song, Shallipopi’s mom called to tell Shalli that the owner of the song he mixed is still alive. Shallipopi was surprised. Actually, he didn’t know anything about Pa Monday and also didn’t know much about copyrights. He thought the song was just an old random praise made for the Oba.
Since his mom said Pa Monday was a family friend, Shallipopi thought it would be easy to settle the issue but it wasn’t. They had to legally document and sign an agreement. Shallipopi then came up with the Idea of shooting the video with Pa Monday and it was welcomed.

Though lots of people do not agree, Shallipopi maintains that Evia is his family name. He feels like people misinterpreted it because of the way it was used.
How did Shallipopi meet Burnaboy?
Meeting Burnaboy was no effort on Shallipopi’s side. Burna actually called Dvpper (Shallipopi’s Management) saying that he needed Seyi Vibez and Shallipopi. At the time, Shallipopi was in London so he quickly hopped on to the next flight and made his way back to Nigeria.

In his own words, he said, “I’m now able to provide for my parents. It’s no longer the way it used to be when I’d struggle before I can send them something little.
