Fortunately in 2016, his friend Agu visited and said he wanted to do music. OD took Agu to the studio, at some point Agu asked him to voice the bass and that was the turning point. After voicing that session, OD knew music was a good path to follow and he never turned back.

When asked a similar question during an interview session, OD said, “Everything I’ve got. It’s not a game, it’s not a hobby, it’s my job. It’s like this guy standing being your camera, if he’s not here where will he be? He’d probably be behind another camera in America because that’s how he feeds his family. So that’s it, that’s enough to get me going. I want to help people too…I care about the poor, I take massive satisfaction from solving somebody’s problem”.
Are there experiences that shaped OD into the person he is today?
Definitely! There are tons of experiences that shaped his personality, perception, and even lyrics. For example, he disclosed during an interview that he insults the police because he has had terrible experiences with them. Why did ODUMODUBLVCK choose to do music in Abuja not Lagos?
There could be a billion reasons why OD decided to establish himself in Abuja rather than Lagos. Here’s one reason he gave for that decision,“…for the first time, let me put Abuja on the same scale as Lionel Messi. When Lionel Messi was about to be signed, he had this medical issue but Rexach in the presence of Barca president could see that this guy was an untapped guy…like if we don’t tap into Lionel Messi now, we’ve lost it. That’s how the Abuja scene is, like right from day one, I knew that Abuja is a virgin land…like it’s the capital of Nigeria which is the number one country in Africa…so I’m opportune to be in this place where people have not really dug to find the goldmine.
How did OD get the understanding for good sound and good music?
For ODUMODUBLVCK, the thing for good music and good sound started in childhood from the songs he listened to. In his own words, “I listen to a lot of stuff, my brother and sisters used to play music every time. My dad used to play Lucky Dube and Bob Marley a lot. He used to play Ghanaian high life. I knew how to infuse all those things”.
Why Does OD love wearing the ‘Okpu Agu’ cap?
In his own words, “It’s a warriors cap. It’s for fighting. I’m fighting against the industry – the music industry, the film industry, and the entertainment industry – because it’s a shitty place. You enter a room where niggas say they f**k with you but when you enter they start looking at their shoes hoping you come and greet them first. So I wear this cap to say ‘omo I don show, even if say you look your shoe in your mind your spirit go dey trouble you say I dey this setting”.

They’re declarations. I cannot make declarations in small letters. I cannot say my album will be number one in small letters. I cannot say Jesus Christ is Lord on small letters. I cannot say that I’m going to conquer in small letters. It’s a proclamation. It’s a declaration”.

In one word OD says it’s ‘greatness’! He also said he wants to break the shackles of poverty within himself and his crew. In his own words, he said, “…we’re poor, I don’t have a bloody car. Why shouldn’t I have a car? I came here with Bolt but my music is popping…I’m poor. I should be able to rent a Benz when I come to Lagos for the one week that I’d be here. But this album will change all that. This album will help my gate man’s children to pay their scholarship bar. Now we do it part time but I’ll be able to set them up so that by 2024, their school tuition till university will be paid into an account through an NGO. That’s what this album is going to do”.
Does ODUMODUBLVCK listen to other Nigerian artists?
A big yes to this one. As a matter of fact, OD mentioned some of his favourite artists during an interview session with Pulse. He said, “Omah Lay is my best artist in Nigeria at the moment. His melodies are undeniable and I think he has the best album out now…his melodies are impeccable. Another artist I love is Rema. I love Rema so much because when you see Rema, he’s more than the music. You can tell that he has a strong spirit”.
Why did OD title his hit single ‘Dog Eat Dog’?
First things first is because of the lyrics ‘when I show them light them go turn their back them go show me dark’. Where did ODUMODUBLVCK get his name from?
ODUMODU came from secondary school in JSS 2. He did a scary face prank on his friend who was sleeping. Upon waking up his friend was scared and said he looked like Odumodu. That was the first time he was called Odumodu and other students joined in calling him by the name. When he started rapping and needed to get a stage name, he came up with TFlow but felt it was too wack because there are lots of TFlows. It was at this point that he reconsidered the nickname Odumodu. He now decided to add the suffix Black to it making ODUMODUBLVCK.
What’s ODUMODU’s affiliation with Blvck Sheep Music and Anti-World Gangstars?
OD formed Blvck Sheep Music in 2017 with his inner circle of friends. Then when they met another circle of friends they formed Anti-World Gangstars. Notice that star in the Gangstars has an ‘a’ not an ‘e’. It’s like a gang of stars. The Anti-World reflects the group’s stand against people who are against Jesus.
Does ODUMODUBLVCK feel pressured to make hit songs?
No, not at all. ODUMODU says he has never felt pressure to make music because he understands that he’s not the one making the music. He believes God makes the music. To him, the only pressure involved is dropping the songs well: which entails things like finding the right label to present him well and the right distribution channel.
Is it true that ODUMODUBLVCK dropped out of school?
Yes he did, but his reasons for that are not so clear. He did mention that he didn’t want to attend Bowen University so he skipped classes and dropped out of Bowen with a 0.01 GPA.
In an interview on the Dadaboy Show, OD mentioned that one time he went late for chapel because there was no power supply to iron out his outfit and there was no water to bathe. The chapel prefect asked him to kneel down but he refused and they called the Vice Chancellor who went ahead to call his mom yet ODUMODUBLVCK would not kneel. According to him, he was like Shedrach, Mischac, and Abednego who wouldn’t bow to the statue of the Babylonian king.

Why did ODUMODUBLVCK title one of his songs ‘Declan Rice’?
ODUMODU has always been a big fan of Declan Rice but he maintains that it was God who gave him inspiration for the track.
The cord linking Declan Rice and OD is very simple but thick. In ODUMODUBLVCK’S opinion, Declan is like the sacrificial lamb in his team; because people who don’t understand football think he’s not valuable since he rarely scores goals. Meanwhile Declan is actually making it easier for his team to score.
ODUMODUBLVCK says that he’s just like Declan because to him, the music industry is like the sports industry and his crew (Anti-World Gangstars and Native Records) is Westham while he is the underdog pushing the genre that doesn’t deserve to be in top ten, with other pop and afrobeat guys, but is among the top eleven in Nigeria.
What advice does ODUMODUBLVCK have for upcoming artists considering the availability of social media?
ODUMODUBLVCK says its very simple for upcoming artists to get attention with social media. In his own words, he says, “…everyday make a post. In the morning by 7am people pick up their phones before they pick up the Bible to pray to God. That subconscious effect that when they wake up they see you. They don’t even need to like it, they’ve seen it and that’s all you need”. Just be pushing out content. The Internet is mad. With Instagram, you can be here live and somebody in India above water will be connected. DJ Khalid is blown but he posts thirteen to sixteen times a day. He posts when he’s eating and drinking.
If you don’t post people will not see. Seeing is believing. God even took it to the extent of saying ‘Blessed are those that have not seen but yet they believe’. That is to show you the importance of sight and visuals. Show them what you can do, you have nothing to loose. Carry it on your head. Post so many times. Don’t be ashamed”.
