Don Jazzy’s Early Life and Education
Micheal Collins Ajereh popularly known as Don Jazzy was born on the 26th of November 1982 to Mr and Mrs Ajereh in Umuahia, Abia State. Micheal Collins Ajereh hails from Delta State. His father is an Isoko man (a tribe in Delta State) and his mother is a princess from Abia. He was raised in Ajegunle after his family relocated to Lagos along with his three other siblings; Charles Enebeli popularly known as D’Prince, James Enebeli and his only sister Joy Solano.
Don Jazzy attended the Federal Government College Lagos for his Secondary School and proceeded to study Business Management at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state.
Music Career
Micheal developed an intense interest in music at a very young age and at the age of 12 began to play the bass guitar and piano, he also gained knowledge of traditional music instruments and percussion.
In 2000, Don Jazzy’s Uncle invited him to play the drums for a local church in London on his first visit.
Despite gaining employment at McDonald’s as a Security Guard, he continued his interest in music associating with artists like Mr Solek, JJC, Kas, Jesse, The 419 Squad and D’banj.
His musical career came into limelight in 2004 when he co-founded the Mo-Hits Record with the popular artiste D’banj. In the next two years Don Jazzy was able to produce two albums “No long thing” and “Rundown/link you up” and a third album “Curriculum Vitae” was well on its way. Around this time he gained a recognisable introduction “it’s Don Jazzy again” which he still uses till today.
In 2008, Don Jazzy was credited in “the Entertainer” by D’banj. He also contributed to the production of Wande Coal’s “ Mushin 2 Mo hits Album”, which was described as one of the best albums to come out of Nigeria.
Although Don Jazzy did not take credit as a singer, he performed background vocals for some artists he produced for and some of which were D’banj, Sauce Kid, Dr Sid, Ikechukwu, D’prince and Jay Z.
In 2011, Don Jazzy was employed by Kanye West as a producer at Very Good Beats. Don Jazzy also worked with Jay Z and Kanye West on the production of Lift Off, featuring Beyoncé in the album “Watch the Throne” which was released 8th of August 2011.
Don Jazzy and D’banj confirmed their break up along artistic differences. The end of Mo-Hits Record brought about the birth of something bigger, Don Jazzy’s own Record Label MAVIN RECORDS. This was established on the 7th of May, 2012.
Don Jazzy said, “I see Mavin Records being the powerhouse of music in Africa in the shortest possible time”.
In May 2012, he released an album “Solar Plexus” featuring the artists signed to his label.

On the 3rd of April, 2021 came the shocking news as Don Jazzy dropped a bombshell about an important aspect of his past. He shared that he had once been married. In 2001 when he was only 20 years while in London he got married to the love of his life and wife, Michelle and explained how loving and caring she was but due to his love for music and his ambitious nature, they got divorced two years after their marriage.
